This morning 31st of October, a press conference was held to present the new Miss World and her princesses to the media, and to give details of what will be Alexandria Mills’ year long reign, starting today.
The new Miss World is 18 years old, and comes from Louisville, Kentucky. She was working as a model for Elite before coming to China, and just graduated from high school last May. Alexandria mentioned her passion for photography, and one of her goals is to become a good photographer.
Emma Wareus from Botswana is the 1st runner-up. She speaks four languages (Setswana, English, French and Afrikaans). The 20-year old has her mind set on becoming a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations.
Second runner-up is Adriana Vasini from Maracaibo, Venezuela. She is a student of medicine who mentioned that she entered beauty pageants to get out of her usual routine. She also set the goal of becoming Venezuela’s 6th Miss World, so she prepared in all areas of the competition including her Talent and Beauty with a Purpose project. It is the first time since 1999 that Venezuela reaches a privileged position in the Miss World court.
Despite rumors that the 2011 edition would be held in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, the Miss World Organization confirmed during the press conference that the venue for next year’s event has not been decided yet and should be announced during the following months.
Alexandria Mills will participate in some charity events in Los Angeles before heading home to her native Kentucky; and will travel to London in December.
